500 extra Tesco Clubcard points with Brother printers – good deal? Er, no

Tesco Direct is offering 500 extra Clubcard points when buying certain Brother printers.  If you are planning on buying a new printer this might sound tempting. But even a quick look at various online retailers shows that Tesco deals aren’t always that great.

PC World, Staples and Argos for example sell the Brother DCP-J4120dw Wireless All-in-one Colour Inkjet Printer for £70, Amazon has it for £60 and Tesco? Still selling it for the original price of £119. That is twice the price!!

The price for the Brother HL-1112 Laser Printer isn’t great either. It’s £59 at Tesco and I found it at Argos and Amazon for £39.

To be fair 500 extra Clubcard points seem pretty striking. Especially as the Brother HL-1112 Laser Printer usually only gets you 59 Clubcard points. But don’t be blinded by the points. If the printer is £20 cheaper elsewhere, Tesco should offer around 2000 extra Clubcard points.  As for the Brother DCP-J4120dw Wireless All-in-one Colour Inkjet Printer we should be talking about at least 6000 extra Clubcard points!

Sometimes a deal simply isn’t as good as it seems. In fact some deals are pretty rubbish.

We like extra points but we don’t like paying a whole lot more for a product just in order to receive them. It’s always worth comparing prices to find the best place to buy a certain product.  Remember that Tesco is not always the best deal in town.

  1. Thanks for the post, glad to see new threads everyday.

    • The plan is to try to do one article a day – it depends on what the offer flow is like after Christmas. Don’t want to push out stuff for the sake of it.

  2. I hope Tesco starts viewing your articles and improves on its deals.

  3. IMV 2000 Tesco points are worth more like £48, eg same as 4800 Avios.

500 points is £12.50 – so mean but not quite as terrible as you might think.

And if Tesco bring the price down within 28 days, you get back the difference if you ask CS.

Worth a punt, because you can always take the printer back for a refund; and if you hand the item back in store you often get to keep the bonus points.

  4. You could run a thread on the Soundbars on direct with the bonus clubcard points.

    • In hand! Working through stuff by expiry date, roughly, and trying to break it up with Nectar stories to keep it fresh. We’re still working on the rhythm ….

  5. Out if interest, how did you come across the info on the bt handsets, this one and the 100 cc points on lego slipped through the net on other sites I read daily?

  6. Amazon fire tv hd ultra reduced on direct to £64.95 today with bonus 250 points, you could do an article to cover this and possible price match refund for anyone who has purchased these already in the last 28 days.
