A sad day is upon us ….
For the last couple of years, one of the easiest ways of earning Tesco Clubcard points was via cashback site TopCashback.
TopCashback allowed you to take up to £50 of cashback from your day-to-day online shopping and convert it into 5,000 Tesco Clubcard points. If you redeemed these points for a Clubcard Boost deal worth 3 x the face value of your points, you turn £50 into £150. This was repeatable every year.
This was a great deal and was a fairly easy 5,000 Clubcard points per year for Shopper Points readers.
A few weeks ago, TopCashback announced that this offer was to be withdrawn. Tomorrow, 31st July, is the last day to transfer cash from TopCashback to Tesco Clubcard.
This move appears to be linked to the broader restructuring of the Clubcard scheme which is currently underway. We have already seen the ending of Clubcard Boost ‘double up’ in store. It has also been reported that Clubcard points will soon be instantly redeemable – like Nectar or Boots Advantage points – by swiping your card at checkout.
Interestingly, TCB said that 33% of users who chose Clubcard converted their points into British Airways Avios points. 30% used them for restaurant vouchers and 20% for family day out vouchers. These are all fairly expensive redemptions for Tesco and probably contributed to their withdrawal from TopCashback.
There isn’t much more to be said, except that you should check your TopCashback balance (and then check it again on Sunday morning!) and move any money left over to Tesco if you are still under your £50 annual cap.
TopCashback will remain a decent cashback site – if you are not already a member, our refer-a-friend link is here. It will just be a bit less generous going forward.Want to earn more Clubcard or Nectar points? Click here to visit the Shopper Points home page for the latest news and offers.
