How to get your money back when Tesco drops the price

Did you know that you can ask Tesco for a refund if they reduce the price of a product you bought?

You won’t find this written down online, but Tesco Direct runs an unofficial price protection policy.

If you buy anything from them and the price drops within the next 28 days, they will refund the difference on request.

Therefore it’s worth keeping an eye on any product you bought from Tesco Direct, especially if it comes with bonus Clubcard points, after your item is delivered. Tesco may well switch it to a price driven rather than points driven offer a couple of weeks later.

Here is an example from this week.

On Tuesday I wrote about an extra Clubcard points offer with Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

Until 25th December you will get 500 extra Clubcard points with Beats by Dr. Dre EP Wired Stereo Headset in three different colours (blue, black and red).

Today is only the 10th December, so you can still get 500 extra Clubcard points with these headphones. Even better, they are now cheaper than on Tuesday.

All three headphones were selling for £90, however one of Tesco’s partners buyur was selling the headphones for £85.  Tesco has now dropped its own price to £80.

If you bought these headphones for £90 you should contact customer service and ask for a £10 refund.

    For those who originally bought the Monster iSport Bluetooth Wireless SuperSlim In-Ear Black Headphones for £90 each to get the 500 Clubcard points, Tesco then reduced the price to £49 on 27 November. They processed my refund very quickly!

  2. Is there any more detail regarding “how to”, other than just “contact customer services”? I prefer to do these sort of things online rather than ring up and talk to a human…

    The Tesco Direct website FAQ states the following:

    What happens if I purchase something and it is then reduced?
    If an item is reduced once you have purchased it then unfortunately we can not honour the new price.

    Items can be returned for a full refund then reordered for the reduced price.

    We apologise for any disappointment this may cause.
