How to earn cash rewards with Local Puzzle when shopping locally

We all know how and where to collect rewards on the high street. Here on Shopper Points we mainly focus on Tesco Clubcard and Nectar card with the odd other high street loyalty programme popping up here and there.

One thing we neglect are the local independent stores.  We might have one or two coffee cards in our wallet to enjoy a free coffee every now and then, but that seems to be the only way of earning rewards in smaller stores.

But this isn’t true.

There is a website called Local Puzzle that has made it their mission to bring customers back into local stores.

Love Local – Shop Local – Earn Local is the slogan of the website that first launched in 2014 in Horsham.  Over the last few years Local Puzzle has expanded their loyalty programme throughout the UK helping spend £2,085,000 in local stores so far.

The programme is fairly time consuming and it will take you quite a while to receive any rewards so you need to have a decent think before getting involved.

You can earn points at ANY local store, even those that are not full members of the Local Puzzle programme.

Simply take a photo of you receipt and send it to Local Puzzle via email.

If the store is not a member of the scheme you still earn 2,000 points per visit. The amount of points awarded from each participating store can be found on this page by searching for the store. Many seem to award a similar amount of points per visit, however when clicking on ‘highest points’ you get a list of stores that award a lot more points.

You can also earn extra points by solving puzzles on the Local Puzzle website – hence the name of the website.

What do you get for your points?

Here is the tricky bit. In order to get cashback you need to collect a good amount of points as only the 25 members with the most points share the total amount of cashback. A cashback payout happens at the end of every month.

You must have made at least 10 transactions with either local stores or Local Puzzle’s online market in order to earn a cashback of more than £5.

After the payout the first 25 jump to the end off the queue and everyone else jumps up 25 spaces.

You can also get a few thousand extra points to get you started using the code 8675LP2973 on the homepage.

Conclusion

Local Puzzle is more than just a loyalty programme.  It’s a community with online forum and chat, part of the money goes to local charities and the aim of it is first of all to support the local community. It might take a while to actually earn cashback and the process of having to keep receipts, take a photograph and email it in order to receive points can seem time consuming.

However it is a fun way of supporting local stores in a time where most of them struggle to compete with big high street names and if you have enough time it may be worth giving it a try.
