Amex FX Offer

Very generous – basically free money! – Nectar deal for Argos purchases

Nectar is currently running a generous deal for anyone making a purchase at Argos over the next few days.

In theory, this is a targetted offer.  In practice, a very large percentage of members appear to be able to register for it.

You MUST register for the offer via the ‘Offers’ tab of the Nectar app or via the Nectar website.  If you can’t see it, you’re not targetted unfortunately ….

The offer works like this:

If you redeem 500 Nectar points for a £2.50 discount on any Argos purchase, you will be given 1,000 Nectar points (worth £5) back into your account as a bonus!

As with many Nectar offers, this is more complex than it should be.

The bottom line, though, is that as long as you buy something from Argos that you were going to buy anyway, you are getting £5 of free money from Nectar.  A couple of packs of batteries will do it!

There is no problem asking Argos to take just 500 points off your Nectar account – irrespective of your points balance – and to pay for the rest of your purchase in cash.  You may want to use more Nectar points, of course, but I would encourage you to try to use them for one of the Nectar redemptions on this page which offer more than 0.5p per point.

The closing date for this offer is Wednesday 23rd December.  Whether you want to brave the crowds in Argos in the days before Christmas is a different matter of course!

The 1,000 bonus points will be credited to your Nectar account by 20th January.

You can only take advantage of this offer once per Nectar account and you must pre-register via the app or website.

  1. Struggling to find anything that costs only £2.50, and for items that cost a bit more than this (batteries, micro SD cards) Argos’ prices are way more than I can get the same items for elsewhere.

    • Argos is surprisingly competitive I’ve found – when we compare prices with Tesco Direct when writing about bonus point deals, they are often cheaper and generally on the same level as Amazon.

The new ‘collection counters’ for online orders are very handy as well – there is one in Cannon Street tube station, for example, which looks like a lost property office! Rarely any queue.

      • No doubt they will be cheaper on some items, but the two examples I looked at:
Pair of Duracell ‘coin’ batteries: £3.99 – I recently got ten on Amazon for £4.20 with free postage.
16GB SanDisk micro-SD card: £12.99 – Amazon looks to be £6, and other retailers around £4.

  2. Last time this offer was on I just picked up a pair of pillowcases for exactly £2.50 which went straight to the charity shop – no point fussing with all these other products

  3. When I went in to use this offer the till tried to take the full amount in Nectar points and wouldn’t allow me to part pay with points & cash.

  4. Promo code: Priority225 -£5.00 for £5 off a £25 Argos giftcard @ O2 store
