Earlier this year Tesco and Esso were running a promotion for Esso Synergy Supreme+ premium fuels, giving you double the amount of Clubcard points when filling up your tank.
Now this offer has been extendended until 31st January 2017 – yes, that’s next year!
Esso Synergy Supreme+ Diesel and Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded Petrol contain twice the detergent additive of regular Esso Synergy Diesel and Synergy Unleaded Petrol, which apparently helps giving a deeper clean of your fuel injectors and therefore promises better engine performance.
If you want to give this more expensive version of your fuel a try, you might as well grab twice the amount of Clubcard points whilst doing so. You can read more about the advantages here: Esso Synergy Supreme+ Diesel and Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded Petrol
The relationship between Tesco and Esso is complex. Tesco is running most of Esso’s convenience stores and as well as earning Clubcard points when buying things in the store, you also receive Clubcard points on fuel.
You can even earn Clubcard points when buying fuel at Esso garages that do NOT have a Tesco store attached.
As not all Esso garages have a Tesco store attached and it can look a little bit confusing at first, here’s a short summary of what to earn where:
Fuel
1 point for every £3 spent on petrol and diesel at Esso garage WITH a Tesco shop
1 point for every 2L of petrol and diesel at participating Esso garages WITHOUT a Tesco shop
Shop
1 point for every £1 spent in the attached Tesco store
You also might get 1 point per £1 at an attached Esso shop that is NOT Tesco, however this is not guaranteed – it is up to each garage to decide
There isn’t much about the Esso / Clubcard relationship on the Tesco website as you can see here and you will need to visit the Esso website in order to find out more.

I’m too lazy, but, spend £50 on fuel at Tesco or the Esso garage a couple of miles further down the road? The winner is ?

Not every Esso garage offers the points, for example there is an Esso garage with a Co-operative Food shop in Saltburn that doesn’t.
