Tesco Clubcard bonus on transfers to Virgin Atlantic and a competition with Avios

In general, we don’t talk much about frequent flyer schemes on Shopper Points.  Our sister site, Head for Points (click here) focuses exclusively on frequent flyer and hotel loyalty schemes.

However, I wanted to give you a quick heads up that Tesco has launched a 20% bonus when you convert your Clubcard points to Virgin Flying Club airmiles.

The Tesco webpage to make your conversions is here.

This is a bigger bonus than the 15% offered back in May.

There is also a bonus of 1,000 Virgin Flying Club miles if you choose to auto-convert your points to Virgin Atlantic going forward.

If you want to find out more about this deal, and decide whether it is for you or not, check out this article on our sister site Head for Points.  It looks at the pros and cons of collecting Virgin airmiles.

The deadline to make your transfer and get the bonus is 16th September.

And an Avios alternative

If you collect British Airways Avios points, there are two competitions but no bonus.

Slightly oddly, ba.com and avios.com are running different competitions.  However, it doesn’t make any difference where you send your points.  You can move the Avios points around between avios.com and ba.com using the ‘Combine My Avios’ function on either site.

The avios.com competition and transfer page is here.  They are giving away 18,000 Avios points to 10 people EVERY DAY until 14th August.

The ba.com transfer page is here.  Details of their competition are not yet on the Tesco site but they are giving away 1 million Avios points to ONE person and 10,000 points to 10 runners up.  The deadline for this competition is later than the avios.com one – 31st August.

So …. if you want to gamble for the 1,000,000 Avios prize, convert to ba.com.  If you would be happy with a smaller prize and a far higher chance of winning something, convert to avios.com!

Both competitions give you more entries based on the amount of vouchers you convert.

  1. OT: 5x nectar points on GWR advance train tickets.
In theory this is targeted via the nectar app/website but worth a try for anyone – go to https://www.gwr.com/hero1 and do a search, valid tickets have a nectar symbol over the price. Oddly when I bought two singles (as a return) both had the icon but only one way got the 10 points per £, the other the standard 2. Still, better than a poke in the eye … 😉

    Not trying to start a flame-war, but….

I think this is the sister site.
    HfP is the brother site.
