Amazon Prime just got better – free magazines and books now included!

Today’s post is not about Clubcard points but about another reason to join Amazon Prime.

First of all: I love Amazon Prime and it keeps getting better and better. Free next day delivery and Prime movies are already worth the £79 a year fee in my opinion

I recently found out about Amazon Music and the 2 million songs that I can listen to for free and I cancelled my Apple music membership which cost me £9.98 a month.

Now Amazon Prime will help me keep my spending on magazines down.

prime reading

Prime Reading – details here – is the newest addition to Amazon Prime and offers a good selection of magazines and books for download – for free.

This benefit works for anyone with a Kindle or who downloads the Kindle app to their smartphone or tablet.

There are around 1,000 book titles and 40 magazines included in your Prime membership via Prime Reading.  Vogue, Wired, National Geographic, Empire, Glamour etc etc …. the magazine selection is impressive, and you download them all for free.

This is not to be confused with Kindle Unlimited.  If you pay for Kindle  Unlimited you can literally read everything in the store on your Kindle for free.  Prime Reading has a far more limited selection.

To be honest a phone screen might be a little bit too small for magazines and constantly having to zoom in can be annoying, but books should be fine.  If you have a Kindle or iPad you shouldn’t have any issues.

If you aren’t an Amazon Prime member yet you can sign up for a free 30-day trial here.  Full details on Prime Reading are here.

I’m not sure this is available to Prime Household members.

  2. Artem Shevchenko says

I couldn’t find the list of magazines available for Prime members on Amazon. Am I missing something?

    • I couldn’t find it either. So I think we’re both missing something!

      • Hi, I’ve just checked the link and indeed the list of magazines (and books) available only comes up when I’m logged into my Amazon account. I assume you have to be a Prime member in order to see the list….

  3. “If you pay for Kindle Unlimited you can literally read everything in the store on your Kindle for free.”

That’s not quite true – Kindle Unlimited gives access to a much bigger selection of books (around one million), but it’s certainly not everything int the store – most big new bestsellers are excluded, for example.

    • I tried it out for a month but the selection was so poor I didn’t continue. I suppose it would be worthwhile if you don’t mind what you read, but if you want specific books then it doesn’t usually work out well.
