Should you convert Tesco Clubcard points into Shrek’s Adventure London tickets?

Is it worth converting your Tesco Clubcard points into Shrek’s Adventure! London tickets? And how do you do it? Today I want to look at whether the new Shrek’s Adventure attraction on the South Bank is a good use of your Clubcard vouchers.

Not all Clubcard Boost offers are a great deal. This page of Shopper Points helps you decide which is the best Clubcard redemption by listing ALL Clubcard Boost offers based on the multiple of face value you get.

As you can see, offers range from 4 x face value (days out vouchers, restaurant deals) down to 2 x. Even at double the face value, of course, you are getting a better deal than redeeming your vouchers in a Tesco store at face value.

Spending Clubcard vouchers on Shrek’s Adventure London tickets

Shrek’s Adventure! is based in County Hall on London’s South Bank. It is in the same building as the London Aquarium and the London Dungeon and the London Eye is directly outside.

You can convert your Clubcard vouchers into a Shrek’s Adventure token on this page of the Tesco website.

It is not possible to convert your Clubcard vouchers into a totally free ticket for Shrek’s Adventure.

You will need £2.50 of Clubcard points and pay a cash top-up of £12.50 to receive a ticket for either an adult or a child. Your special offer code is emailed to you directly and needs to be entered when booking your tickets online. Tesco will send you the link together with your special offer code.

Is Shrek’s Adventure London a good way to spend your Clubcard points?

Let’s see...

A Shrek’s Adventure ticket on the door for an adult is £27.50. If you book online in advance that comes down to £19.00 as long as ‘Online Saver’ tickets are still available. These must be booked before the day of your visit.

Using Clubcard vouchers, you still need to pay £12.50 in cash in order to receive your ticket.

Unlike many Clubcard ‘days out’ redemptions, you cannot turn up at Shrek’s Adventure! whenever you want. You still need to book your ticket online for a specific day and time. This means that you shouldn’t compare the value with the £27.50 ‘on the door’ price. You need to compare it with the £19 pre-booked price.

You are getting (£19 – £12.50 / £2.50 of Tesco vouchers) 2.5 x face value for your points. This is not great, albeit clearly better than using them in a Tesco store for face value. And, of course, you can’t spend more than £2.50 of Clubcard vouchers per person so this is not a great deal if you have a lot of points.

However, there are often many special offers available on Shrek’s Adventure tickets which make the Clubcard deal look worse.

Some brands of Kellogg’s cereal, for example, currently have a ‘buy a child ticket and get a free adult ticket’ coupon printed on them. Shrek’s Adventure is included. This would halve your entry cost for paying cash if 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 1 child go.

If you use the Kellogg’s 2 for 1 voucher, you will pay £27.50 for two adult tickets and £22 for one adult and one child. This is way better than using your Clubcard vouchers! For an adult and a child a Kellogg’s 2-4-1 voucher is actually cheaper than the cash co-payment required when using Tesco points …..

Shrek’s Adventure is a not a great way to spend your Clubcard points, and a truly terrible way if you can get your hands on a 2-4-1. You should consider redeeming for one of the other high value Clubcard point redemptions on our list.
