Should you convert Tesco Clubcard points into London Zoo tickets?

Is it worth converting your Tesco Clubcard points into ZSL London Zoo tickets? And how do you do it? Today I want to look at whether this is a good use of your Clubcard points.

Not all Clubcard Boost offers are a great deal. This page of Shopper Points helps you decide which is the best Clubcard redemption by listing ALL Clubcard Boost offers based on the multiple of face value you get.

As you can see, offers range from 4 x face value (days out vouchers, restaurant deals) down to 2 x. Even at double the face value, of course, you are getting a better deal than redeeming your vouchers in a Tesco store at face value.

Spending Clubcard vouchers on ZSL London Zoo tickets

You can convert your Clubcard vouchers into London Zoo tickets on this page of the Tesco website.

You will need £2.50 of Clubcard points for a £10 Tesco Clubcard token you can use towards a ticket for either an adult or a child (children under 3 are free). You will receive an email with a voucher which you need to print and show at the ticket office. The voucher cannot be used online.

The voucher is valid for six months from the day you redeem.

Is London Zoo a good way to spend your Clubcard points?

On the face of it, yes.

A London Zoo ticket on the door is £29.75 for an adult without the additional suggested donation. A kids ticket is £22. If you book online in advance that comes down to £24.30 for an adult and £18 for a child. You can also buy family tickets online for £75.80 (2 adults + 2 children OR 1 adult + 3 children). Family tickets are NOT available on the day.

(Booking in advance commits you to a particular day whatever the weather. Using Clubcard tokens is flexible as long as you use them within six months.)

You can only exchange Clubcard vouchers in multiples of £2.50, so £2.50 gets you £10 of tokens, £5 gets you £20 of tokens etc.

Because the tickets are priced at £29.75 for an adult and £22 for a child, you will need to figure out how many tokens are needed for your day out at London Zoo. You will probably have to either top up with cash or order more tokens than you actually need.

Generally speaking you do get 4 x face value which is great. The discount you get for booking for cash in advance is small and makes little difference to your overall return.

However depending on the amount of tickets and the additional cash you might pay, the face value will be slightly below 4 x. If you are a family of four then you will get nearer 3 x face value as you cannot buy a Family Ticket with Clubcard vouchers – but these are only available in advance and this may not suit your plans.

Note that the prices above are based on peak season. Between October and February tickets are around 10% cheaper, but that doesn’t change the maths.

London Zoo is a good way to spend your Clubcard points, but you might also want to consider redeeming for one of the other high value Clubcard point redemptions on our list.
