How to get special deals with the Amazon Treasure Truck

Two days ago I was on my way back to the office after having bought some lunch and saw two men walking around with ‘Amazon Treasure Truck’ bags. I had no clue what this meant, but was intrigued so jumped onto Google to learn about Amazon’s new way of buying.

Amazon Treasure Trucks started in the US in 2016 as an experiment to take Amazon from the web onto the streets and has turned into a great success.

Amazon customers can sign up to text message alerts of a daily special deal, buy it via the Amazon app and then come pick it up at their nearest Truck stop.

How do I sign up?

I actually found a link on the Treasure Truck Instagram page, but if you type in ‘Treasure Truck’ in your Amazon App you will also find a link to the sign up page.

Alternatively you can sign up on the desktop page via this link. This is also the link if you want more information.

I filled in my telephone number and selected London as my location.

This is the text reply I got:

What are the deals?

In theory it can be anything from champagne over kitchen small appliances to game consoles or even meat.

If you scroll a bit further down on the Amazon Treasure Truck page you can get an impression of previous deals.

Yesterday’s deal was a wireless charging pad which was 50% off. As I have an iphone 7 which doesn’t support wireless charging I didn’t jump on this deal.

What else can I expect?

On the website it says ‘There’s always something happening at the Truck – whether it’s a sample of something delicious, a celebrity meet-and-greet, or a fun game with prizes.’ They once had a Star Wars event I’m gutted to have missed….

Where can I find the Treasure Truck?

In the UK you can find Treasure Trucks in Birmingham, Coventry, Leeds, York, London, Manchester, Maidenhead, Windsor, Slough, Reading, Portsmouth and Southampton.

Further cities will be added in the future.

What do I think?

It looks like Amazon is trying to create a new shopping experience which starts on your app and results in an experience.

As we do a lot of our shopping online these days, it is nice to see companies trying to connect with their customers on a human/face to face level.

I am yet to visit a Treasure Truck myself, but I look forward to it and will tell you about my experience.

Comments

  1. I’ve not bought anything since I signed up but what they’ve been offering in London since I did have been

    Chopping board set
    Pink gin
    Bluetooth speaker
    Pressure cooker
    Trimmed lamb racks
    Noise cancelling headphones
    Beef brioche sandwiches

  2. Shame there’s no way of doing multiple postcodes. I’d like to sign up with both my work and home postcodes as I could be at either on any given day.

    • I didn’t enter my postcode and yesterday I was able to see all stops in London. I think you only need to choose the city

  3. I have seen Parking enforcements asking them to move the Truck from a non-Parking zone. 🙂

  4. Not so much a UK offer, as nothing in Scotland, Wales or NI.
