£10 credit with your first Amazon Top Up In Store of £40

If you don’t want to use your credit card or bank details on Amazon, there is a new way of paying for your purchases.

Amazon top up in store let’s you top up your gift card balance with cash or card at (selected) Pay Points.

To promote the top up in store option, Amazon has launched a promotion where you can get £10 credit with your first Amazon top up of £40 or more.

How does it work?

You need to get your unique barcode which you can do on this Amazon pageAmazon top up in store barcode.

There are two options. Either you choose to have the barcode sent to your phone, or you can print it off.

If you choose the phone option you will receive a barcode which can be added to your Apple Wallet.

Once you’ve got the barcode you can go to your nearest Pay Point which you can find on this website .

Tell them you would like to top up your Amazon account and show them the barcode. They will scan the barcode, you pay and the money will be added to your gift card balance.

What else?

Note that not all Pay Points can scan Amazon barcodes (yet). I tried it in Wembley a while ago and was told they had never heard of it before. We also received an email from a reader saying there were problems in the Shepherds Bush area.

The Amazon website says that you can ask for an Amazon Top Up Gift Code if a store cannot scan your barcode.

How do I get my £10?

Once you’ve topped up your Amazon gift balance you will receive an email saying that the money has been added. A bit later you will receive a second email telling you that you will get £10 off your next purchase.

I used this promotion a few months ago (top up £25 and get £5 bonus). Will I get this new bonus or is it only for new customers?

  2. I used the receipt method to top-up £40 for my 2 Amazon accounts and got the £10 credit for both.

  3. I had real trouble trying to get this to work last time I tried – I tried three different locations and they either couldn’t scan the barcode or their PayPoint machine was broken. Too much hassle for me.

Can you use a credit card to top up with paypoint

    • If it’s the same as paying a bill through paypoint then it very much depends on the store. My local coop don’t have a problem with it which makes paying council tax on an amex quite lucrative. Others have reported their local stores being more awkward.

As Andrew said, co-op’s with Paypoint terminals works for me; Trick is to go after 5.30pm when the post office counter is closed (if it has one) as an inexperienced cashier will say, go to the post office counter! Council tax and landlord rent all on the Amex. Sweet.
