Do you need to send money abroad and want the money to reach the recipient within a few hours rather than days?
A couple of years ago Tesco introduced MoneyGram money transfer counters to many of its larger stores and decided to permanently offer 50 Clubcard points with MoneyGram money transfers of £50+.
This obviously does not look like an exeptional offer, which is why we need to look a bit closer at MoneyGram to find out whether it’s worth using them for international money transfers.
You might be more familiar with Western Union, but MoneyGram is exactly the same. It lets you send money abroad with no hassle.
When looking at the fees, neither MoneyGram nor Western Union are great value for sending large amounts of money abroad. You can find better and cheaper deals online with companies such as Azimo and TransferWise. However, sending money with the latter two normally takes about 1-3 working days. Depending on the country, money sent with MoneyGram can be with the recipient within 1 hour.
The short transfer time and the convenience of sending small amounts of money straight from a counter in your local Tesco store are the two advantages of MoneyGram. Plus some extra Clubcard points are always welcomed!
The small print says that the £50 minimum transfer can include the fee, so the minimum amount you need to send to get the points will be a little lower. If you are sending larger amounts of money abroad, however, using Azimo or TransferWise will save you money.
