Nectar and Expedia to end redemption partnership – and change the earning rate

Expedia has been sending out emails informing customers of changes to the Nectar/Expedia relationship.

From 15th December on you can no longer exchange your Nectar points for Expedia vouchers.

You can currently not find anything about the end of the redemption partnership on the Nectar website, but if you do want to exchange your points for Expedia vouchers, you better do so within the next month.

Here is a quote from the email: Nectar customers will no longer be able to convert their Nectar points into an Expedia voucher to spend with Expedia. For customers who intend to spend their Nectar points with Expedia, you can still do so before 15th December 2018 by calling our redemption helpline at 0203 027 5943

The earning rate will also change.

When booking your holidays with Expedia you currently earn:

1,000 Nectar points for package bookings

200 Nectar points for hotel only bookings

200 Nectar points for flight bookings

200 Nectar points for car rentals

If your Nectar account is linked to your Expedia profile, you earn your points automatically.

However, from 15th December on you can no longer earn Nectar points this way.

Instead you have to go to nectar.com and then click through to the Expedia website – you will get a cookie on your computer and when you book, the Nectar points will be added to your account.

If you forget to visit the Nectar website first, you won’t earn any points.

The new earning rate will be:

2 Nectar points per £1 spent on standalone hotel, car hire, activity (new) and package bookings

1 Nectar point per £1 spent on any standalone flight booking (excluding taxes and fees).

This can be beneficial if you spend a lot of money on your holidays but if you used to book cheap flights via Expedia you will earn less in the future and might want to book before 15th December.
