Trouble at Zeek – many users are owed money as the company is looking for a buyer

We have covered the gift marketplace Zeek a few times here on Shopper Points.  The concept of being able to sell unwanted gift cards and save some money by buying them below face value appealed to us.

However, it looks like the company is in trouble. Over the last few days more and more users have taken to Twitter complaining about not having been paid for gift cards they’ve sold via Zeek.

Looking at Trustpilot there have been a couple of issues with gift cards that had no balance or were not working but the majority of reviews up to a couple of days ago were rather positive.

Then three days ago complaints started being added by users who’d been waiting for their money since January and Zeek stopped replying to Trustpilot reviews.

It has now been confirmed that Zeek is currently looking for a buyer and for now Zeek has disabled transactions.

According to Money Saving Expert a Zeek spokesperson said:

Zeek Mobile Ltd (an Israeli business) is currently working through a process with its major creditor Viola. Part of this process will be to secure a buyer for the business short term. Transactions on the marketplace and shop have been temporarily paused while we resolve this issue over the coming days. We greatly appreciate the support of our consumers during the necessary changes we are making to the business ownership structure.”

We’d recommend that you do not use Zeek for now, to avoid the risk of losing money.  Hopefully people who had large credit balances sitting in Zeek, possibly because they had just sold gift cards or had moved over earnings from cashback sites like TopCashback, will see something back – but it isn’t certain.

If you’re looking for another place to buy or sell gift cards, try cardyard.co.uk. I’ve used them and would recommend them. And they get very positive feedback on reviews.co.uk.

    • I’ve seen that website, but don’t you have to send them physical gift cards? (which I have) and it’s not free postage…

  2. Shoestring says

Report I saw said Zeek mgt agreed with Viola that the only logical route to pursue was to put Zeek into administration.

  3. All was good running at a loss until the bank started calling, can’t see anyone bailing them out when they could just invest in a new company as zeek hardly offers anything worthwhile

  4. Paul Benny says

I’ve used Zeek successfully to buy cards. Right now attempts to purchase a card using a remaining balance just produce a ‘purchase failed’ message with no further explanation.

Thanks for the recommendation for cardyard

    • I’m having this issue too, and no reply from support either. Doesn’t look good for my £60 balance…

Unfortunately i have £70 in there as zeek credit! I kept meaning to clear out the balance. Ah well.

  6. I also have £250 of Zeek Choice credit – bought when there was a top-up bonus. Can I go back to my credit card company as the goods have not been received or received as described?

  7. David Butcher says

Are we ever going to get any update on the Zeek situation? Everyone who has ever recommended them in the past seems to have gone strangely quiet. What the hell is going on?
