Get 5x Nectar points with Esso!

Esso and Nectar are running a short promotion that lets you earn 5x the points you would normally get for filling your car up at an Esso petrol station.

It is running until Wednesday, 18th September. We assume that includes all of Wednesday although it is not clear from the terms and conditions!

You must pre-load the offer to your card via the Nectar website here. If you cannot see the offer when you click the link then you may not be eligible for the promotion (sorry!)

Once loaded to your Nectarcard you can fill up. Just make sure to swipe your Nectarcard before you pay!

The points should credit to your account within 28 days.

  1. Is this a ‘use once only’ during the promotion, or as many times as you want between the specified dates?

  2. Filled up car at an Esso branded petrol station to get the 5 x nectar points offer. At the till they said they did not take Nectar!! I had just spent nearly £90 with Esso specifically so I could get the points offered by Nectar which they claim is to mark their new relationship with Esso. I had to use several hours of my Sunday trying to get these points honoured and have it implied that it was my fault. I only got the points through sheer dogged persistence, they even said they could not find an Esso station with the name and address of the one I used. I went online to Esso and found the station and forwarded a copy of this to Nectar agent online and then was subjected to irrelevant questions like hurdles to prevent the points being added to my account. Clearly Nectar have some issues to iron out!

My experience suggests they have some major issues to sort out. I tried to use an “extra points” voucher from the Daily Mail in my local Esso station and staff were unable to get it to work on their system, then the boss came out, took one look at the voucher, saw the word “Nectar” and told me it was only valid in Sainsbury’s. I pointed out that the voucher stated clearly “any Esso garage that accepts Nectar” (and this garage had a big sign saying that they did) but he said there was nothing he could do. I contacted Nectar who told me there was nothing they could do, but that I would need to email Esso. I did this, and had to supply them with photos of my voucher and till receipt – finally I got credited with my 100 Nectar points (ie 50p). My time is worth more than that. I will not be taking advantage of any further Nectar/Esso promotions. As they say on “Dragons Den” – for that reason, I’m out!
